Beer. Wine. Cider. Rainbow.

Hear that water? That’s the sound of saturated hillsides letting loose the billions of rain drops and melted snowflakes that have wound their way across pavement, through soils, around stones, and skipped past root systems. This is but one gathering of the waters, piling on down to the sea. Known as Boeing Creek, this water is named for, yes, that Boeing, our very own industry magnate / robber baron who once owned the property surrounding this particular gathering of waters, and who created a series of fishing weirs for his own enjoyment. Just outside the image frame sit remnants of old concrete forms and exposed re-bar digits. As we walk up the creek old corrugated culvert pipes scatter the ravine like a busted up skeleton. Tall evergreens populate much of the hillsides, but we notice that even the most established trees have trouble holding onto the sandy soil at a steep incline. Recent storm systems have dropped 12” of rain and snow. Years like this bring plenty of mudslides, make you shake your head at the wealthy houses perched on pilings, and give Seattle its reputation.

I was feeling a bit envious of my Chicago friends (though I’ll pass on negative degrees, thx). Our turn for a proper winter storm. ☃️❄️

This sums up how we’re all feeling pretty well. Farewell 2020. It is time for change, after we all hibernate for a little while. #bye2020 #timetohibernate

Found objects in the forest (or thereabouts) 🌲✨🎄

I visited the woods today, to listen to their wisdom and calming perseverance. As I turned a corner a grey squirrel ran toward a broad leaf maple, only to be chased away by a feisty and smaller Doug squirrel. The dougs are far outnumbered by the invading greys, but they are still here. It was a good reminder to stay vigilant, no matter who comes to power. Who will you lift up in the seasons to come? Will you stay on the side of power? Or will you seek to support life in and of the margins?

Today I did a thing to celebrate turning 45 years young. I had never colored my hair before, but it seemed like a good thing to do, and blue is the color of water, which is my theological pursuit these days. It’s been a f@&!ng year that we’re living through, somehow, together. So, cheers to the celebrations we can scrounge up right now; including, I made candidacy. ABD!!! Thank you, Darrell’s for patio space.
